Nathan Kolosko

Critically acclaimed classical guitarist Nathan Kolosko has performed throughout the US, Europe and Asia. Nathan's debut recording Sonatas & Sonatinas has received praise from many critics. "A high-octane agenda from a guitarist with the skill, imagination, and confidence to bring it alive."- Classical Guitar, London. Nathan studied with Joanne Castellani of the Castellani-Andriaccio Duo and the legendary Cuban guitarist/composer Ricardo Iznaola. He has participated in master classes with players such as Oscar Ghiglia, Sharon Isbin, and Christopher Parkening.

As a musician, Nathan is compelled to expand the voice of the guitar through collaborations with both musicians and visual artists. He is currently collaborating with visual artist Ling-Wen Tsai on several inter-disciplinary video and performance projects, and performs regularly with flute player Carl Dimow.

Nathan has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including grants from the Allied Arts Foundation and D'Addario Strings .In 2001 he was a prizewinner in the MTNA national guitar competition. Nathan has also been granted the position of teaching assistant at the Bowdoin International Music Festival in Brunswick Maine.

As a composer, Nathan has made contributions to the repertoire for solo guitar, guitar ensemble and guitar with other instruments. His works are currently published by Doberman-Yppan. In addition to being a performer and composer Nathan is a teacher dedicated to furthering the pedagogue of the guitar.

 
 
 
Musical Collaborations

The kolosko•dimow duo consists of critically acclaimed guitarist Nathan Kolosko and the eclectic and always original Carl Dimow on flute and bass flute. The duo formed in 2005 and has released their first recording, nos•tal•gia - music from brazil, venezuela & argentina on Fleur de Son Classics.

nos•tal•gia features works by Villa-Lobos, Antonio Lauro, Baden Powell and others. Kolosko and Dimow collaborated on original arrangements for this recording, which frequently feature the unique and enchanting combination of bass flute and guitar.

The duo strives to break new ground and eliminate the boundaries between classical music and other genres. Whatever the genre, they bring a creative and refined originality to everything they interpret, arrange and perform.

 

Inter-Disciplinary Collaborations

Nathan's collaborations with Visual artist Ling-Wen Tsai began in 2005 with the performance piece entitled metamorphosis of meditation. Since then they have collaborated on several Performance and video projects including water & wind and lines.

Works from the video series water & wind have been featured in exhibitions at: Portland Museum of Art, Maine; Heaven Gallery, Chicago; Frame - International Video Festival, Escola das Artes- Porto, Portugal; Green Galley, Milwaukee; SPACE Gallery, Portland, Maine.

Kolosko and Tsai are currently working on several performance pieces that will create a seamless unity between music, movement and visual art.
